Discover a bit of Scotland in the heart of Woodstock on
Sunday evening, January 27th at the first annual Shenandoah Burns Night
Celebration. We will gather at the
Woodstock Brewhouse to celebrate the life and works of the poet and song writer
Robert Burns on the anniversary of his birth.
Also known as Rabbie Burns, the Bard of Ayrshire, the Ploughman Poet and
various other names and epithets, his birth has become the unofficial national
day of Scotland. But more than just the
man, Burns Night celebrates the spirit of the Scotts people around the
world: our roots, our journeys, and our
enduring connection to the land of misty mountains. But you don’t have to be born of the
highlands - all are welcome.
This 216 year old celebration is structured around ancient
traditions, but will feature an evening of good music, poetry, food, comradery,
and perhaps just a wee dram of uisge beatha, Scotch Whisky. Other potables will include the usual
selection of Brewhouse beer, Muse and Cave Ridge wines as well as softer
drinks. A Haggis will, of course be on
offer, but more conventional dinner fare will be
certain to please any palette.
The evening is being hosted by Three Guid Frein (good friends)
in association with the Valley Educational Center for the Creative Arts
(VECCA), and all profits from ticket sales will go to that worthy
organization.
The menu, ticket prices, where to purchase tickets, and other
details will be announced here over the coming weeks. Ticket sales will begin on Saturday, December
15 at locations to be announced here. Space is limited, so get them while
they are available.
